At Light Pattern, we believe that great tools are the foundation of great games. We are looking for a Tools Programmer to help create a set of industry-leading content creation tools for our unannounced project. If you love building tools that empower teams and shape how games are made, we want to hear from you.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Auckland, New Zealand. Relocation assistance is available.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain tools that support content creation and game development workflows
- Work closely with artists, designers, and other programmers to understand their needs and translate them into practical, intuitive tools
- Optimise performance and usability across the toolchain
- Maintain and extend build systems and automation infrastructure
- Create visual debugging tools that help diagnose complex in-game behaviours
- Help shape the technical direction of our in-house engine and tool ecosystem
Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- 2+ years of professional programming experience in game development or relevant tools-oriented roles
- Strong proficiency in Rust or modern C++
- Deep understanding of UI/UX principles as they apply to developer tools
- Experience developing tools for game engines (custom or commercial)
- Familiarity with asset pipelines and editor frameworks
- Comfortable working across disciplines and communicating complex technical ideas clearly
